Hollywoodbets Sponsors The Sharks Rugby Team
South African online sportsbook Hollywoodbets has just announced a 3-year deal with Rugby Union team The Sharks. The agreement will see the operator function as an associate sponsor of the popular team, and is expected to benefit both brands.
A Commitment to Community
Hollywoodbets is known for working to develop grassroot and developing Rugby teams. For example, they’ve recently signed on as sponsor of the Phaka Rugby Show on the Super Sport television channel. This puts them in position to provide urgently-needed equipment and other support to fledgling squads.
For The Sharks, which have only been going since 1995, the financial support will help their continued evolution. Chief Executive Officer Eduard Coetzee said they were looking forward to a “long and mutually beneficial relationship”, which would elevate both organisations to new levels as it pushed boundaries.
Being able to partner with like-minded brands like Hollywoodbets who share The Sharks’ drive to give back, said Coetzee, “fantastic”. He added that the side was thrilled to welcome an operator that shared their values to their professional “family”.

The Hollywoodbets logo will be displayed on the team’s shorts during Super Rugby matches. During the Currie Cup, South Africa’s premier domestic Rugby Union tournament, the logo will be on the back of the official Sharks jersey.
The Sharks’ stamp of approval is a huge coup for Hollywoodbets, and should grow the bookmaker’s trustworthiness in the eyes of desktop and mobile bettors. The respected team has won the Currie Cup no less than 8 times, most recently in 2018, and has been participating in Super Rugby matches since the annual competition was first held in 1996.
From KZN to the World
Values are not the only things that the companies have in common; both originated in South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), located in the southeast of the province, and both are expanding at an exponential pace.
The Sharks’ home matches are played at Durban’s Jonsson Kings Park Stadium and Hollywoodbets opened its first branch in the same city’s Windemere suburb. That was in 2000, and the sportsbook has been growing rapidly ever since.
Today, Hollywoodbets operates in South Africa, Mozambique, the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland. As its reach increases, so does its sponsorship. Before closing the deal with The Sharks, the bookmaker already had other agreements in place.
In addition to sponsoring the KZN Murray Cup Club Rugby competition, which is the oldest contest of its kind in the world, Hollywoodbets has 5-year naming rights for the Kingsmead Cricket Stadium in Durban and recently signed on as sponsor of the SuperSport channel’s Phaka Rugby Show.
Kingsmead is the home of the Durban Heat and Dolphins Cricket teams, and Hollywoodbets is also the latter’s primary sponsor. In fact, the side has been renamed the Hollywoodbets Dolphins.
Brand and Communications Manager at Hollywoodbets, Devin Heffer, said his employer is “absolutely elated” to be associated with the “iconic” Sharks and to be extending their Rugby sponsorship within the KZN province.
Working together the companies should be able to further give back to the community, Heffer added. As the reaches of both businesses increase, they are clearly still committed to their home province.
